Ok, so Arctic Monkeys #4 I haven't seen live but guess whaaaaat I have the ticket to see them live in july ( what is up ).

So this is my favourite Arctic Monkeys record ( after the EP ) and I really like this fast sound they develloped into Favourite Worst Nightmare, their second album. My favourite thing in every song of theirs has to be the drums. I mean, Matt Helders is brilliant at what he does and in this record you have songs like "Brianstorm" or "D is For Dangerous" when you can really feel the drums and the energy. And now comes that part where I should make a compliment to every other instrument and don't get me wrong, I love the bass and the guitars like on "Teddy Picker", but I wanna jump to the part when I talk about my favourite song. In this album it has to be THE song, the obvious one: 505. How can someone not love 505? I mean, it's 505. The top of the Arctic Monkeys. Sorry about that rambling, I just really love that song. Anyway, I love it for many reasons I'd take probably about two years to say them all, so I'm not going to do that.I remember the first time I heard it I swear my head exploded with the part when Alex sings "... but I crumble completely when you cry..." I can't express my feelings in words I am most terribly sorry.

But listen to the Arctic Monkeys. I'm 505% sure you won't regret it (did you see what I did there? Ah, clever pun).

Oh, what to say about Lana del Rey? So many controversy has surrounded her since before she even put out the album. I love her so much, despite all that. I've neve seen her live as well, so #3 artist that I haven't seen. She played in Lisbon last year, though, but I didn't go to the show. What a loser.
So this isn't the Paradise Edition, I want it but I'm not sure, I'll get it later. But I love this record anyway, it has 3 bonus tracks (Without You, Lolita and Lucky Ones). I was never one to like this hip-hop-ish beat but I think her voice just brings it all togehter, it reminds me a bit of honey. The first song I hear was "Video Games", I remember it was my dad who showed it to me and said I should really listen. At first I thought she was spanish. No idea why.
The best track of this album is, for me, "Million Dollar Man". I don't quite know why, I just know I really like it. The lyrics are alright ( " ... it isn't that hard boy / to like you or love you / I 'd follow you down, down, down / you're unbelievable ... " ) and the instrumental is amazing as well. I don' know, this is a feeling I get with lots of songs: I like them, but I have no idea why.
But listen to her, you won't regret it.

Let's break this chain of "I've seen live" because I haven't seen Vampire Weekend live ( #2 ) . Moving on. Oh how I love Vampire Weekend and this record. Actually I prefer this one to the first, don't know why. So Contra. Weird name for a record innit? Actually, in portuguese, contra is actually a word and it means against or contrary to, so when I picked up this record I thought it was going to be a very negative, bit dark album, but surprisingly, it wasn't. It's fair to say that Vampire Weekend aren't a dark band, despite what the name might lead you to believe. They have this kinda african influences that I really like and of course, Ezra's voice, the soft velve or the little screams, I don't quite know what I like the most bout him ( probably his twitter, go check it out here ).

I was having a bit of trouble deciding which was my favourite track, so I asked my friend for help and it was of no use. So I realised the best was "California English", probably because it's so fast and you can really hear the bass (played by Chris Baio) and that's my favourite instrument. The band also consists of Ezra Koenig (vocals and guitar), Rostam Batmanglij (guitar and keyboards) and Chris Tomson (drums). It's an amazing band and I love the lyrics of this song as well.

Go listen to them. Seriously.

Should I write this? I'm going to write it anyway: I've seen Big Deal live. And met them afterwards, but oh well. To be quite honest, when I saw them live with my friend I only knew one song (Chair) but still I really liked the concert. Also, we were right in the front row and we were fangirling over KC because he's just so cute, oh my god.

So Lights Out - it's a damn great album. It scored 7/10 on NME and for a debut thats pretty great. To me it's one of the best albums ever, I absolutely adore their voices (Alice's especially) and the guitars (only instruments played) are so sweet particularly on "Homework". I sometimes read people going like "oh I was waiting for the drums to kick in" or "this song could be so much better of it had drums and a bass" and all I think is "no this is perfect". I don't believe that a song to be good should have a person singing, guitars, bass, drums and keyboards, my god that can come out as a big great mess, ya know? Though, I have seen some pictures they posted on facebook where it's KC playing with Mel Rigby and Huw Webb of S.C.U.M who play drums and bass, respectively. That scares me a bit but I'm also really anxious about listening the new record.

But for now, my favourite track of "Lights Out" has to be "With The World At My Feet". Their voices are so sweet together and the lyrics like " ... you don't have to say it's done / I know, I know ..." are perfect and I know I'll love Big Deal, whatever way they decide to go on the next album.

January 12th. A day to mourn forever. It was the day they broke up. I was so sad, I cried for so much time and sometimes when I play their songs on my iPod I feel so ... weird, like it's a friend I know I'll never see again. Because I never saw them live, and now I'll never really get to see them live, I think.

So, "Again Into Eyes" is the name of their record. It's actually a part of the lyrics of "Whitechapel" one of the best songs of their record, actually the first song I ever heard of them ( not my fave though ). This album, despite its use for comparisons to other great bands like the Horrors ( and picking up similar references as the Horrors' ) is a debut masterpiece. I fell in love with almost every song in this record and a member. My "loverboy" goes by the name of Bradley Baker (synths), but besides him the band also conists ( more like consisted ) of psycho-goth lead singer and guitarist Tom Cohen, Sam Kilcoyne a.k.a. Sammy Seven (guitars & keyboards), Huw Webb on the bass ( fun fact: he is brothers with Rhys Webb of the above referred Horrors ) and his girlfriend Mel Rigby who plays ( played ) the drums.

The best and my favourite track has to be "Paris". The melody and and Tom's voice echoing throug the delicate drum line and the gentle guitar sweeping in the behind always gives me this feeling sort of like I'm floating. And also he lyrics are genius : " ... to lie awake and hear / that I was born in the wrong way / lifted to another place / bury my love / bury my love / in the winter air / in solitude / lifted there ... ". Aren't they just a brilliant masterpiece?

Guess what, yes, I have seen the Strokes live as well. I have seen lots of bands live I guess. Lots, really, I am not even joking. Moving on the concert was super great, although many people disliked it, but I was more in the mindframe of "this is a privilege, to be here, front row, watching one of my favourite bands live".
So, First Impressions of Earth ( FIOE ) is the Strokes' third record and the longest (yet). It's my favourite, as you probably have noticed, and I prefer the "heavier sounding" Strokes ( in songs like "Juicebox" or "Heart In A Cage" ). My favourite song has to be "Heart In a Cage". The instrumental itself is great and the lyrics are amazing and I looove Jules' voice. The way the guitars played by Nick Valensi and Albert Hammond Jr., the amazing bass played by Nikolai Fraiture and Fabrizio Moretti's drums are like a "river of the sweetest honey". The guitar solo is amazing, I feel like I'm going down a spiral untill I almost can feel insanity brushing my fingertips.

So, MGMT. I've also seen them live it was such a great experience, it was on December 18th of 2010. I'm not going to tell you the details, I'll leave that to another time. For now, I just want to let you know that I met them. Yep, I met the great MGMT. But that's not the issue today.
Congratulations is the band's second record. Personally, it's my favourite. Although I obviously adore Oracular Spectacular, I will always love Congratulations more (no offense "older brother"). This record is so amazing and all the synths ( played by Ben Goldwasser, one of the original members ) in songs such as "I Found a Whistle" always make me feel so nice. The record has so many psychadelic influences ( mostly from the 70's, like Bowie ) and Andrew VanWyngarden's voice in possibly every song can take you to another world where everyting is so colourful and then let you fall into the deepest darkness, as if you were being dragged into a black hole. Their awesome sound is complete with guitar played by both Andrew Vanwyngarden and James Richardson, bass by Matt Asti and drums, by Will Berman.
I think the best track ( well, i's my favourite ) is Siberian Breaks, a 12-minute long song that contrary to what might be believed, isn't tiring at all bcause the rhythm changes and it almost seems like there is more than one song within the song. The lyrics are beautiful as well, especially the part when Andrew sings "... the empty sky surrounds me but I can't see at all / wide open arms can feel so cold / and you can sit beside me and tell me what it's worth / but I hope I die before I get sold ... ". To me, it feels close to perfection.

I remember the time I saw Arcade Fire live: it was absolutely one of the best concerts I've ever been to. They are nothing less than spectacular onstage and their songs just get so much more "life" when they are played live. The concert took place on the second day of SuperBock SuperRock ( July 15th of 2011 ) exactly 239 days after their concert in Lisbon, which ended up being cancelled, due to a NATO conference held in Portugal at the same time. I was so sad when I found out they wouldn't play, I literally began to cry, though in the end, everything worked out.
So, "The Suburbs" could almost be called something like a "theme record", because almost every song sort of goes around that idea of a suburban life. Although the band decided to strict the idea of the suburbs, it doesn't mean it's an album only about that suburban experience. Personally, I absolutely adore this record, from start to finish. My favourite track "Empty Room" is an explosive combination of the ferocity of the violins sort of "crashing" against the guitars and drums. But also songs like "Ready to Start", "Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)" and "Month of May" are brilliant rock masterpieces. Altogether, this is a damn fine record.

The xx are a British band who, in my modest opinion, are not only a great band, but also my favourite band ever. They got me with their first record simply entitled "xx" and I remember lying in my bed at night, in the dark, just listening to their songs and thinking "wow I've never heard anything like this" and I believe that settled them as one of the best bands to ever exist.
Moving on, their second record "Coexist", which came out in early September of last year, really got me because of the obvious reasons stated above and because they did evolve in loads of aspects. Personaly, I'd like to point out the fact that Oliver Sim's voice (bassist and male singer) has gotten so much better (sometimes it send shivers down my spine). The band also consists of lead female singer and guitarist Romy Madley-Croft and synths/drums/so many things he plays-man Jamie Smith, most commonly known for Jamie xx.
I must say my favourite song of this record is Unfold. The soft "oh-oohs" and the lyrics (...in my head / you tell me things you've never said / and I choose to forget / I take the good and leave the rest /...) are felt by ( I think) many people who've gone through that situation of wanting to say something, but because they are scared or embarrassed to say that, just let things unfold.

So hey, my name is bia, I'm from Portugal and I'm 90% sure I won't be posting here daily, so i'm sorry.
For starters, I created this blog as a sort of an "extension" of myself. I love music. It's the greatest thing in the whole world. Therefore, I made this as a way of sharing my favourite records or just put one up that I really enjoy.
The "concept" is to post everyday a record that I either like a lot or I just heard or something like that. Also, I'm planning on every Sunday putting a musical related post, besides the "Record of the day".
I honestely hope someone will read this and develop a love for music like mine!
