Hello beautiful people who still read my blog!!!!! First of all, I want to apologize for neglecting this for so long but I was on vacation and then school started etc, no one cares. All you care for is music, I suppose. Like me.
So, today I bring to you Beirut's wonderful third record. "The Rip Tide" came out a few years ago, when I was really hyped about Beirut, and completely in love with "The Flying Club Cup", their second album.
This one is my favourite though. I love Zach Condon's voice, it's velvet-ish in some songs, like A Candle's Fire, or East Harlem. Something I really like about Beirut is their folky side, the (sometimes messy) combination of <instruments, just merging together in such beautiful melodies and I must say, that as far as instrumental complexity, I think Beirut are masters in that aspect, just picking up some trumpets, organs, guitars, accordions (??) and drums and turning all of that into those sweet melodies. They actually sort of take me back in time, to that late 19th century, when everything was nice, just before the WWI and the opulence of the Russian empire, I don't know.
So, my favourite track of this record is most certainly "Vagabond", i love everything about it, from the organ in the beggining to every drum in the world and trumpet kicking in, and turning it into one of the best songs ever. The sort of interlude in the middle is really great, it brings this sort of dancy touch to the song. Also the lyrics are very pretty, especially when Zach sings " ... now as the air gets cold / the truth unfolds / and I am lost and not found ... " and that voice.
Well, again I'm sorry, really, and I hope you enjoy this record as much as I do!!

Hey guys! First of all, I'd like to thank everyone who has seen my blog, I'm really thankful! I never thought I'd have more than two people ever visiting here!! Therefore, I am really happy that you have all seen my blog, please keep comign, I'm going to try and post more records here! But I'm going to have really important tests and exams, so I'm sorry in advance.
So today I decided to put here The Naked And Famous's (TNAF) debut record. I just love it so much. It's sort of a dream-pop/rock kind of grunge-ish everynow and then ( like on "Spank" or " Wolf In Geek's Clothing" ) style of music. To be quite honest, I haven't listened to the record fully in a while, but I am currently listening to it!!
I first heard about TNAF because a friend of mine uploaded one of their songs on Facebook and once I heard it, I immediately fell in love. I just absolutely adored every song in their album when I heard it, so you understand why it is so hard for me to pick a favourite song, but I probably have to choose "Punching In A Dream". I think it's one of the most dream pop-rok song in their record, and I think that's why I love it. Also, te lyrics are pretty much amazing, like " ... wait / I don't ever wanna be here / like punching in a dream breathing life into my nightmare ... "
Well, just go listen to them, please!

Again, I'm so so so sorry for not being here for the last few days, but I was a bit lazy, and to be honest, I haven't really remembered to put up anything here and I had to study for some tests.

So today, I decided to put PEACE's brand new record called "In Love".

Of course, the first song I ever heard of them was "Bloodshake", but to be honest, I was only attracted to the song because Harrison Koisser (singer, guitarist) on the video, imitates Fred MacPherson of the band Spector - another band I really like.

Anyways the record came out a few days ago, and it was streamed in various websites, and that's where I listened to it. I still don't have it, but I want to purchase it as soon as possible, because I absolutely love it.

Their ep "Delicious" (which featured tracks like "Bloodshake" or "California Daze" ) was a sign that this band was goign to achive great things in the musical world, which is something they have done, and the proof is the beautiful "In Love".

I'm not 100% sure hich gender of music it is, but I have to go towards a bit of shoegaze-meets-dream-ish-rock.
Besides loving the band, I have a little crush on Harry. He's cute and I really like his voice!! Besides Harrison, the band consists of Harry's brother Samuel Koisser ( bass ), Douglas Castle ( guitar ) and Dominic Boyce (drums ).
Due to loving this record a lot, I can't really decide on a favourite track, but I looked on my iPod's most played, and the one was "Float Forever", and after I thought a bit about it, I reached the conclusion that it is probably my favourite song. I love the instrumental and the lyrics like " ... hold on to your headlights / they hold the skin to your bones / fold in fear in the white lines / you know we'll float forever / you know we'll float forever in the tide ... " ; don't know why I love them, I think they're just beautiful.

This is another artist I haven't had the pleasure of seeing live, although he has played in Portugal numerous times (he's actually coming to play at Optimus Primaver Sound in June, if I'm not mistaken!!).
To be quite honest, I don't know how I hadn't thought about posting this record, because I have it almost since it came out, and it's one of my favourites ever!
I got it in 2011, and it was around winter, and I just really liked to listen to James Blake while reading a book. I always associate his music with cold weather ( actualy, in an interview, he stated that his music was more for wintertime, than any other, and I really agree! ).
I've never been on to like dubstep and that sort of music, but I really like this "post-dubstep" or whatever they like to call it. The synths are really great, and his voice.... I can't deal with it seriously, it's too perfect!!
My favourite song on this record has to be "The Wilhelm Scream"; I love its beggining, there is no other one that can compare to that one; and the lyrics are great as well, especially the part when he sings " ... I don't know about my love / I don't know about my lovin' anymore / all that I know is I'm lovin', lovin', lovin' / might as well love you ... ".
In conclusion, it's a damn great album!

I have seen the Smith Westerns live, back in 2010, when they did the first part for MGMT. I have a "funny" moment related to that concert. I had heard some of Smith Westerns' songs before the concert, and when they got on stage, I thought to myself "hmn, I didn't remeber they had a girl in the band" (referring to the lead singer). Turned out he was a boy (Cullen Omori) and I was a bit embarrassed.
This is a very different album from "Smith Westerns", which was more garage rock. This one is more glam-rock I think.
But this record is really great, I love every song but mostly the guitars. All the effects on them are amazing. Some people compare them ot T.Rex, but to be honest I think I've never heard T.Rex in my life (please don't hate me).
I love "All Die Young", the fourth song on this record, because the lyrics are really nice, but mustly, because the end. I love it! When Cullen sings " ... all die young / blood is nothing when you are young ... " I seriously start dancing around, becaus e almost every song on this record makes me wanna dance around.

I've sort of seen the Vaccines live, because I saw one or two songs, and then I left to another concert, They played in Superbock Superock in 2011, in the same day as The Strokes.
I really love the Vaccines. The first time knew they existed was in march two years ago, when I bought my first ever copy of NME magazine, and they were on the cover, which made me read te article regarding the band.
From the moment I first heard their songs, I knew I was going to really like them, which happened. I can't recall which was the first song I heard, but it was probably "If You Wanna", the obvious one. I like it, but it's not my favourite of that record. For me, the best song is "All In White". I love the guitars, the drums, but mostly, the bass. That initial bassline is perfect. And I adore the lyrics, especially the part when Justin (Young, singer and guitarist) sings "... but I will one day shine with you / I'll shine on a faithful few ...".
Please listen to this song, I swear to you, it's perfect.

Hey guys, I know I haven't been posting everyday, but I've had tests, so it was kinda impossible to do so.
But here I am again, with a 5-day vacation!! So, to begin, I haven't seen Two Door live ( #6, if I'm not wrong ), although they have been to Portugal many times, but I'm hoping I get to see them this summer at Optimus Alive Festival, and I'm really anxious for that moment. For what I've read, they are super amazing live, and their songs come "more to life", I've got to stop writing this, because I'm getting really sad because it's a million years away *sigh*.
"Tourist History" is TDCC's first record and my favourite. I really love the "fastness" of their songs, they make me wanna dance and sing and jump, and all those feelings you get when you hear great music. I love their vibe and Alex Trimble's voice, .and the fun the guitars seem to be having just flailing. That probably sound weird. Sorry.
My favourite track of the record is "Eat That Up, I'ts Good For You". I love it so much, the lyrics, but mostly because the sort of "song party" toward the end. If you listen to it you'll probably get what I'm talking about.

Let's continue with this "I've seen live" chain, because (ah-ah) I've seen Kings of Convenience at Optimus Primavera Sound, back in June, last year, the same day I saw the xx live for the second time. Wow, it sure was an amazing show.
So this is their third record, it came out in 2010, if I'm not mistaken and it's my favourite. Although I love songs from "Riot On An Empty Street", I don't really like "Quiet Is The New Loud". But this is about the other one. I adore this record, and like Big Deal, the only instruments, besides Eirik Glamboe and Erlend Oye's voices, are guitars. However, in this band, they both play acoustic guitar, which, in my opinion, just match their voices. Oh God how I love their voices, Erlend's most, it feels like silk in my ears. Sadly he sings mostly the back vocals, while Eirik takes the lead.
I don't know what to say more about the, except they really have this kind of bossa nova groove that I really enjoy, being myself a lover of bossa nova music.
So my favourite song in this record is "24-25" because I really really really love the "guitar solo" towards the end and the lyrics like "... dreams burn / but in ashes are gold ..."
So go listen to them because they are just perfect.

Let me see what I can say about Radiohead... Well, first of all, it was my friend who "persuaded" me to put this record here, and since I didn't think of another one to put up, I decided to put this one. Second, I have kind of seen them live, because they played in Optimus Alive festival last year, and I went and I was in the crowd watching them, but I only saw like two songs or something, because afterwards my friend got hungry so we left the gig to eat ( and we met the Maccabees ).
So "Kid A". Actually, it was my cousins who gave it to me when I turned 16. At first, I was a bit fearing that I wouldn't like the record or the band, although I knew the "obvious songs". And I took a quick listen to it, and I only liked 2 or 3 songs. And I wasn't that excited about seeing them live, it was more because I went with some friends who really like them and the rest is, as they say, history. But recently, a friend of mine showed me some songs of their other records and I really liked them ( like "Jigsaw Falling Into Place", from In Rainbows ), and made me listen to "Kid A" again and again ( and many times more because this is a great record ).
My favourite track on this record has to be "Idioteque". It's also, for me, their best song. I love it so so so so so sooo much, I can't say why. Maybe because the instrumental, I mean, it's just perfect.

So the Horrors are #5 that I haven't seen live, although they played in Lisbon last year. I was really sad, as your might imagine, but I love them anyway.

"Skying" is their third record and my favourite. I honestly can't understand people who either don't like the Horrors, or never heard of them. I just can't seem to understand how / why. I mean, how can someone not like those krauty melodies and Faris' voice and please if you have never heard them I beg you, I'm down on my knees begging you to listen to them please, because you're probably missing out on the band of your life.

Moving on,"Skying" is a masterpiece. Either it's Faris Badwan's (singer) voice, Tom Furse's synths, Joe Spurgeon's drums, Rhys Webb's basslines or the pedal / modular synth or whatever that Joshua (Hayward) built for his guitar, everything just comes together as if it were a puzzle ( but those puzzle that fit and actually look pretty, ya know ) ( and also the easy ones, not over 5000 pieces, or I'll just go beserk ). Damn, I was rambling. Okok, my absolute favourite track of this record must be "Still Life", not only because of that collboration with Florence Welch onstage at the 2012 NME Awards, but mostly because I really like the lyrics and the instumental. The soft guitar line which introduces us to the song, leading us to the drums and everything coming together and creating this perfect song, I can't really explain, you should really listen to the song. And to every other song. Listen to them, please.

Ha-ha I've seen the Maccabees live twice. Oh yeah, back in July last year, at Optimus Alive festival, and later in November at Atlantic Pavilion, when they did the first part for the Black Keys. That was the best I think because the first time I saw them, I was also waiting for Miles Kane to come from the backstage so I could have a photo with him ( Miles groupie, I know ), therefore I wasn't paying much attention to the concert. Oh and how could I forget the most important part: I met Felix ( White, guitar ) and Orlando ( Weeks, vocals and guitar ) during Radiohead's concert ( which I left because my friend was hungry and we met them ). But that's another story.
"Given To The Wild" is the Maccas third record and it's also my favourite. I really like their more "rock" sound of the first two albums, but this kinda glam-dream-rock they have evolved into. Besides those two members I met ( Fe and Lando ), the band also consists of two other White borthers, Hugo and Will (guitar and keyboards/synths ), bassist Rupert Jarvis and drummer Sam Doyle.
My favourite track of this album has to be "Unknow", I love the synths and guitars flowing there. But mostly, I love the vocals, both Orlando's and Caroline's, and the lyrics, such as "... unknow me / pour me away..." or "... just while love remembers ...".
I dunno what to say more, just to go and listen to them, and love them.

Let's break this "chain" of artists I haven't seen live, because I have seen Florence + the Machine live in 2010 and I was supposed to see them live again last year, but unfortunately they cancelled the show and Morcheeba played instead. As you might imagine, I was really sad and I loathed Morcheeba for a long time.
But it's not about that thing that I'm here to talk about today. I'm here to talk about "Lungs" - their first album. I love every song on it. For real, I don't know why. I love Florence's voice of course. I can't tell you, it almost feels as if I was born with this love for FATM's music.
So my favourite song is probably "Howl". I've had a phase when I absolutely adored "Girl With One Eye" or "Blnding" but right now I'm loving "Howl". Again. The lyrics are astonishing, like " ..the ropes have been unbound / I hunt for you with bloody feet across the hallow'd ground... " and the instrumental itself is perfect.
i don't know what I can tell you more. Listen to Florence + the Machine and fall in love I think.

Ok, so Arctic Monkeys #4 I haven't seen live but guess whaaaaat I have the ticket to see them live in july ( what is up ).

So this is my favourite Arctic Monkeys record ( after the EP ) and I really like this fast sound they develloped into Favourite Worst Nightmare, their second album. My favourite thing in every song of theirs has to be the drums. I mean, Matt Helders is brilliant at what he does and in this record you have songs like "Brianstorm" or "D is For Dangerous" when you can really feel the drums and the energy. And now comes that part where I should make a compliment to every other instrument and don't get me wrong, I love the bass and the guitars like on "Teddy Picker", but I wanna jump to the part when I talk about my favourite song. In this album it has to be THE song, the obvious one: 505. How can someone not love 505? I mean, it's 505. The top of the Arctic Monkeys. Sorry about that rambling, I just really love that song. Anyway, I love it for many reasons I'd take probably about two years to say them all, so I'm not going to do that.I remember the first time I heard it I swear my head exploded with the part when Alex sings "... but I crumble completely when you cry..." I can't express my feelings in words I am most terribly sorry.

But listen to the Arctic Monkeys. I'm 505% sure you won't regret it (did you see what I did there? Ah, clever pun).

Oh, what to say about Lana del Rey? So many controversy has surrounded her since before she even put out the album. I love her so much, despite all that. I've neve seen her live as well, so #3 artist that I haven't seen. She played in Lisbon last year, though, but I didn't go to the show. What a loser.
So this isn't the Paradise Edition, I want it but I'm not sure, I'll get it later. But I love this record anyway, it has 3 bonus tracks (Without You, Lolita and Lucky Ones). I was never one to like this hip-hop-ish beat but I think her voice just brings it all togehter, it reminds me a bit of honey. The first song I hear was "Video Games", I remember it was my dad who showed it to me and said I should really listen. At first I thought she was spanish. No idea why.
The best track of this album is, for me, "Million Dollar Man". I don't quite know why, I just know I really like it. The lyrics are alright ( " ... it isn't that hard boy / to like you or love you / I 'd follow you down, down, down / you're unbelievable ... " ) and the instrumental is amazing as well. I don' know, this is a feeling I get with lots of songs: I like them, but I have no idea why.
But listen to her, you won't regret it.

Let's break this chain of "I've seen live" because I haven't seen Vampire Weekend live ( #2 ) . Moving on. Oh how I love Vampire Weekend and this record. Actually I prefer this one to the first, don't know why. So Contra. Weird name for a record innit? Actually, in portuguese, contra is actually a word and it means against or contrary to, so when I picked up this record I thought it was going to be a very negative, bit dark album, but surprisingly, it wasn't. It's fair to say that Vampire Weekend aren't a dark band, despite what the name might lead you to believe. They have this kinda african influences that I really like and of course, Ezra's voice, the soft velve or the little screams, I don't quite know what I like the most bout him ( probably his twitter, go check it out here ).

I was having a bit of trouble deciding which was my favourite track, so I asked my friend for help and it was of no use. So I realised the best was "California English", probably because it's so fast and you can really hear the bass (played by Chris Baio) and that's my favourite instrument. The band also consists of Ezra Koenig (vocals and guitar), Rostam Batmanglij (guitar and keyboards) and Chris Tomson (drums). It's an amazing band and I love the lyrics of this song as well.

Go listen to them. Seriously.

Should I write this? I'm going to write it anyway: I've seen Big Deal live. And met them afterwards, but oh well. To be quite honest, when I saw them live with my friend I only knew one song (Chair) but still I really liked the concert. Also, we were right in the front row and we were fangirling over KC because he's just so cute, oh my god.

So Lights Out - it's a damn great album. It scored 7/10 on NME and for a debut thats pretty great. To me it's one of the best albums ever, I absolutely adore their voices (Alice's especially) and the guitars (only instruments played) are so sweet particularly on "Homework". I sometimes read people going like "oh I was waiting for the drums to kick in" or "this song could be so much better of it had drums and a bass" and all I think is "no this is perfect". I don't believe that a song to be good should have a person singing, guitars, bass, drums and keyboards, my god that can come out as a big great mess, ya know? Though, I have seen some pictures they posted on facebook where it's KC playing with Mel Rigby and Huw Webb of S.C.U.M who play drums and bass, respectively. That scares me a bit but I'm also really anxious about listening the new record.

But for now, my favourite track of "Lights Out" has to be "With The World At My Feet". Their voices are so sweet together and the lyrics like " ... you don't have to say it's done / I know, I know ..." are perfect and I know I'll love Big Deal, whatever way they decide to go on the next album.

January 12th. A day to mourn forever. It was the day they broke up. I was so sad, I cried for so much time and sometimes when I play their songs on my iPod I feel so ... weird, like it's a friend I know I'll never see again. Because I never saw them live, and now I'll never really get to see them live, I think.

So, "Again Into Eyes" is the name of their record. It's actually a part of the lyrics of "Whitechapel" one of the best songs of their record, actually the first song I ever heard of them ( not my fave though ). This album, despite its use for comparisons to other great bands like the Horrors ( and picking up similar references as the Horrors' ) is a debut masterpiece. I fell in love with almost every song in this record and a member. My "loverboy" goes by the name of Bradley Baker (synths), but besides him the band also conists ( more like consisted ) of psycho-goth lead singer and guitarist Tom Cohen, Sam Kilcoyne a.k.a. Sammy Seven (guitars & keyboards), Huw Webb on the bass ( fun fact: he is brothers with Rhys Webb of the above referred Horrors ) and his girlfriend Mel Rigby who plays ( played ) the drums.

The best and my favourite track has to be "Paris". The melody and and Tom's voice echoing throug the delicate drum line and the gentle guitar sweeping in the behind always gives me this feeling sort of like I'm floating. And also he lyrics are genius : " ... to lie awake and hear / that I was born in the wrong way / lifted to another place / bury my love / bury my love / in the winter air / in solitude / lifted there ... ". Aren't they just a brilliant masterpiece?

Guess what, yes, I have seen the Strokes live as well. I have seen lots of bands live I guess. Lots, really, I am not even joking. Moving on the concert was super great, although many people disliked it, but I was more in the mindframe of "this is a privilege, to be here, front row, watching one of my favourite bands live".
So, First Impressions of Earth ( FIOE ) is the Strokes' third record and the longest (yet). It's my favourite, as you probably have noticed, and I prefer the "heavier sounding" Strokes ( in songs like "Juicebox" or "Heart In A Cage" ). My favourite song has to be "Heart In a Cage". The instrumental itself is great and the lyrics are amazing and I looove Jules' voice. The way the guitars played by Nick Valensi and Albert Hammond Jr., the amazing bass played by Nikolai Fraiture and Fabrizio Moretti's drums are like a "river of the sweetest honey". The guitar solo is amazing, I feel like I'm going down a spiral untill I almost can feel insanity brushing my fingertips.

So, MGMT. I've also seen them live it was such a great experience, it was on December 18th of 2010. I'm not going to tell you the details, I'll leave that to another time. For now, I just want to let you know that I met them. Yep, I met the great MGMT. But that's not the issue today.
Congratulations is the band's second record. Personally, it's my favourite. Although I obviously adore Oracular Spectacular, I will always love Congratulations more (no offense "older brother"). This record is so amazing and all the synths ( played by Ben Goldwasser, one of the original members ) in songs such as "I Found a Whistle" always make me feel so nice. The record has so many psychadelic influences ( mostly from the 70's, like Bowie ) and Andrew VanWyngarden's voice in possibly every song can take you to another world where everyting is so colourful and then let you fall into the deepest darkness, as if you were being dragged into a black hole. Their awesome sound is complete with guitar played by both Andrew Vanwyngarden and James Richardson, bass by Matt Asti and drums, by Will Berman.
I think the best track ( well, i's my favourite ) is Siberian Breaks, a 12-minute long song that contrary to what might be believed, isn't tiring at all bcause the rhythm changes and it almost seems like there is more than one song within the song. The lyrics are beautiful as well, especially the part when Andrew sings "... the empty sky surrounds me but I can't see at all / wide open arms can feel so cold / and you can sit beside me and tell me what it's worth / but I hope I die before I get sold ... ". To me, it feels close to perfection.
